Stanley Nwabali’s late penalty save rescues point for Chippa United

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali produced a dramatic 90th-minute penalty save to earn Chippa United a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United in the South African Premier League.

The Nigerian international, who has built a reputation for delivering in clutch moments, once again showed his class by denying the hosts a stoppage-time winner.

Nwabali’s heroics come just days after he missed Chippa United’s 2-1 defeat to Polokwane City, where 24-year-old Ayanda Sithole stood in for him.

His absence had raised concerns, with head coach Luc Eymael describing the situation surrounding the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper as “sad,” while stressing it was a matter to be handled internally.

The result leaves the Chilli Boys with a valuable point on the road, as Nwabali continues to underline his importance for both club and country.
