Sunshine Queens have parted ways with head coach Kayode Olujohungbe following a string of underwhelming results in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership 2025/26 season.
The Akure-based club confirmed the decision in an official statement on Friday, explaining that the move was made after a review of the team’s recent performances and the need for a change in direction.
According to the club, the decision is aimed at repositioning the team and improving results as the season progresses.
Despite the dismissal, Sunshine Queens expressed gratitude to Olujohungbe for his commitment and contributions during his time in charge, while wishing him success in his future endeavours.
During his tenure, the coach recorded two wins, six draws, and five defeats in 13 matches.
Sunshine Queens currently sit ninth in Group B with 12 points, a position the club believes falls short of its ambitions for the campaign.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was a 1-0 loss to debutant, Ahudiyannem Queens in Akure on Friday.
