Sunshine Stars pay last respect to late governor & kit manager with Doma United win

After the death of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday,  Sunshine Stars secured a 2-0 win against second-placed Doma United in the Nigeria Premier Football League encounter in Akure.

Emmanuel Isaac broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 19th minute at the Akure Township Stadium.

Two minutes minutes into the second half, Opeyemi Olufemi doubled the lead for the Akure Gunners. Before kick, the team honoured the late Governor, Akeredolu whose death was announced in the early hours of Wednesday.

They also honoured the late Assistant kit Manager, Taiwo Dosunmu who died from gunshots during the team’s trip for a league encounter against Bendel Insurance this month.

With the win, Sunshine Stars occupy the eighth position with 21 points after 16 games, while Doma United remained in the second position with 28 points.

Nine more games will take centre stage on Thursday as the final Matchday of the season in 2023 takes place.
