Nigeria’s senior men’s national team defeated record winners, Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win the bronze medal at 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco on Saturday.
Both sides were not separated after 90 minutes with the Super Eagles finding the back of the net twice.
Akor Adams thought he has opened scoring for the three time African champions in the 36th minute but his goal was ruled out for a foul.
In the second half, Ademola Lookman also scored but the goal was also ruled out for an offside after Adams initial effort was flagged for an offside.
The game went straight to penalties with Nigeria goalie, Stanley Nwabali who was voted player of the match saving two spot kicks from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
Fisayo Dele Bashiru also missed Eric Chelle’s side first penalty before Adams, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Lookman scored to give Nigeria a 4-2 win.
The Super Eagles will travel to Rabat to claim their bronze medal during the medal presentation after Sunday’s final between Morocco and Senegal.
