Super Eagles open camp for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe

By Dayo Awoniyi

The Nigeria’s senior men’s national team are gearing up for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, with the Nigerian national team set to begin preparations in Kigali this Sunday.

The Eagles will face Rwanda’s Amavubi on Friday, March 21, at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

They will then host Zimbabwe’s Warriors on Tuesday, March 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Head coach Eric Chelle has announced a provisional 39-man squad for the two matches, which will be trimmed to 23 players by the end of the week.

The Super Eagles are still searching for their first victory in the qualifiers.

After three draws—starting with 1-1 results against Lesotho and Zimbabwe and another stalemate against South Africa—the team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin. These results have made their path to the World Cup more challenging.

With the stakes higher than ever, the Super Eagles are determined to turn things around and get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track.
