Super Falcons are N52m richer for reaching Women’s World Cup knockout stage
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
With the recently introduced players’ financial prize for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the players of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team are expected to smile home with cash rewards after making it to the Round of 16.
For making it through to the las 16, each Super Falcons player will now get $ 60,000 (N52m each), while the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will receive $1.87m from FIFA.
The total of $3.25m will be paid to the NFF who will pay the players their share. If the team progresses to the quarter-final and equals the 1999 feat, each player will increase their largess to $90,000.
An elusive place in the semi-final guarantees $165,000 for the players which could rise to the tune of $195,000 for getting to the final.
For the first time, the team kept two clean sheets and ended the group stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup unbeaten. The nine-time African champions will next face European champions, England in the Round of 16.
