Super Falcons midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has emphasized team unity, discipline, and belief as Nigeria prepares to face Zambia in Friday’s quarterfinal of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with journalist Ademola Victor, Ayinde noted the team’s solid defensive record — with no goals conceded so far — and stressed the need to improve their attacking efficiency.
“We respect Zambia, they’re a good team. But we don’t have to focus too much on them… We’re ready to play and win,” Ayinde said.
Nigeria topped their group unbeaten with seven points, while Zambia have scored six goals but conceded four in the group stage.
The 29-year-old midfielder also shared advice for aspiring athletes, urging them to stay consistent and believe in themselves despite challenges.
“Don’t let anyone shut you down or discourage you. As long as you’re pursuing your dream, you’ll get there,” she said.
Ayinde thanked fans for their ongoing support and acknowledged the physically demanding nature of her midfield role.
The Super Falcons will face Zambia on Friday, July 18, with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
