Super Falcons laud Ayo Omidiran’s appointment as Federal Character Commission boss

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigeria captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has congratulated Honourable Ayo Omidiran on her appointment as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a goodwill message issued on behalf of the reigning African champions, Ajibade described the appointment of Omidiran, her fellow indigene of Osun State, as a worthy recognition of her immense contributions to sports development, politics, and national service.

“Dear Mummy, Honourable Ayo Omidiran, I would like to felicitate with you on your recent appointment as the Chairman, Federal Character Commission. On behalf of all the members of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, we wish you a successful and impactful tenure.

“We pray that God will direct your path, order your steps and bless you with the wisdom, knowledge and grace in this role,” Ajibade said.

Ajibade’s tribute carried added significance as both women share a football history. Omidiran was serving as Chairperson of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Women’s Football Committee in 2018, when Ajibade captained Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets, to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France.

The Super Falcons skipper also acknowledged Omidiran’s consistent support for the team over the years.

“We thank you ma for your continued support and love towards the team always. May God bless you and all that concerns you and may He continue to bless you with sound health, abundant peace, immense fruitfulness and flourishing in all ramifications. Once again, Congratulations Ma.”

Omidiran, a two-time member of the House of Representatives and former FIFA Women’s Committee member, has long championed women’s football and sports in general in Nigeria.

The football administrator cum politician founded the Omidiran Babes Football Club in the 1990s, mentored young players, and played a pivotal role in advancing policies for the growth of Nigerian sports during her time in the National Assembly.
