Super Falcons motivated to qualify for Paris 2024 Olympics Games – NFF

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretary general Mohammed Sanusi assures that the country’s senior women’s national team is well motivated to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

After missing out on the last three editions, the Super Falcons started their campaign to qualify for the next Olympics with a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia on Thursday in the first leg of the second round clash in Addis Ababa.

After a training session at the Turf Arena in Abuja, the NFF scribe said the nine-time African champions have been well-motivated to defeat Ethiopia, stressing that the nation’s football body can’t afford to fail Nigerians.

“This match is very important to us, of course, we have missed the Olympics three times and can’t afford to miss the next one,” Sanusi told BSNsports.com.ng

“The president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, said I should come and talk to them. He’s unavoidably absent but will be around tomorrow. He said I should come and let them know that Nigerians are solidly behind them. We have a new government that has been supportive that we can’t afford to fail. So we must be at this next Olympics.

When asked to predict the scoreline in the second leg next Tuesday, he said: “It’s difficult to say a particular scoreline but all I will say is that we have charged the team to go for the kill against Ethiopia and make Nigerians proud and I believe they have the capacity to do it.

“Even Ethiopia are a good side, they missed many scoring chances in the first leg and I believe they will want to take their opportunities in the return leg.”

The nine-time African champions had their first training after they arrived from Addis Ababa on Saturday in Abuja ahead of the return leg on Tuesday.

The winner of the match on aggregate will face either Uganda or Cameroon in the third round.
