By Samuel Ahmadu

Nigeria is set to host Algeria in a pair of international women’s friendly matches on October 26 and October 29, respectively, Nigeria Football can exclusively report.

Organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the friendlies will also mark the beginning of the Super Falcons’ rebuilding process under interim manager Justin Madugu, following the departure of former coach Randy Waldrum.

Sources in Algeria, revealed that the West Africans will host their North African counterparts in the two-legged friendlies, with homebased Super Falcons expected to execute both ties.

The matches are part of Nigeria’s preparation for the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco, where the Super Falcons will be aiming for their 10th title on their 13th attempt.

Algeria, meanwhile, will be looking for their sixth appearance at the continental tournament, having secured a place at next year’s AWCON alongside Nigeria as part of the 12 teams that qualified in late 2023.

These friendlies will serve as a crucial opportunity for Madugu to assess the squad’s readiness for the upcoming challenges, including the women’s Afcon.

The Super Falcons will be aiming to fine-tune their tactics, strengthen team chemistry, and build confidence as they enter a new chapter in their quest for continental and global glory.

Algeria has steadily improved over the years and remains a formidable force in North African women’s football, while Nigeria are looking to assert their dominance on the continent once again.

The venue for the friendly matches has yet to be announced, with final details expected to be confirmed soon. Nonetheless, these fixtures represent a pivotal step in the Super Falcons’ journey toward reclaiming their place at the top of African women’s football.
