Taiwo Awoniyi: Nigeria striker guides Nottingham Forest to EFL Cup quarterfinal

Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi was at his best on Wednesday night as he helped Nottingham Forest secured Carabao Cup quarterfinal berth after a commanding 4-1 win at Blackburn Rovers.
The towering Super Eagles striker scored one of the goals in the match controlled by the Forest especially Wales’ super boy, Brennan Johnson who scored twice.
Johnson put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute but Blackburn, however equalised shortly before half-time through Scott Wharton.
Jesse Lingard’s deflected free-kick restored Forest’s advantage just eight minutes into second half.
Awoniyi made it three for Stephen Cooper side as he used his body to shield ball from Blackburn defender after a through pass from Lingard before the former Union Berlin forward perfectly fired past Blackburn keeper.
Johnson scored a second late on to complete an impressive display for Nottingham Forest.
Victory has moved Forest to secure a place in the EFL Cup quarter-final draw, which will take place on Thursday night.
