Taiwo Awoniyi’s decisive goal helped Nottingham Forest recorded their second victory of Premier League following a shocking 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Awoniyi goal came ten minutes into the second half of the feisty early kickoff in the English top-flight encounter that saw both sides giving all but failed to get something from it.

Liverpool came close to finding the first half opener through Roberto Firmino but the Brazilian failed to get his header on target.

Forest broke away on the counter after Liverpool were caught napping but a sloppy pass from Jesse Lingard couldn’t make them score.

Liverpool Centre back, Virgil van Dijk was located by James Milner in the 38th minute. The central defender decided to head to the path of Firmino rather than score.

Former Liverpool forward Awoniyi capped a wonderful performance with the goal as he latched on to a right wing cross and fired to the upright before reacting quickest to slam the ball home.

Forest pushed for a second goal as Morgan Gibbs-White had time and space to shoot at goal from Awoniyi’s pass but it was a brilliant, sliding block by Milner to divert it away for a corner, which Alisson got a hand to.

Firmino had a good chance for an equaliser as he was found free with a corner but he couldn’t guide his header on target.

Awoniyi, who scored the only goal of the against the team where he came through the ranks but never played a senior game came off to a great reception from the home fans and on came defender Joe Worrall.

Liverpool continued to pile on the pressure as Jurgen Klopp prowled along the technical area but it was too late to get an equalizer.

It was a dream goal for the Super Eagles’ star who had relished playing against Liverpool but could not play for despite being signed for up five-year contract at the age of 18. The win has however lifted Forest from the bottom of the table having played a game more than Leicester who are now 20th.
