‘They were tired’ – Nasarawa United loss to Bendel Insurance irks Abubakar Arikya
By Saheed Afolabi
Assistant coach of Nasarawa United, Abubakar Arikya was left disappointed how his side’s bowed to a 1-0 defeat ay Bendel Insurance in Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football League match in Benin City.
Nasarawa United have only managed a win in seven opening games as were condemned to their sixth defeat of the season by Ebuka Akobundu’s second half effort at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Irked by the loss, the tactician feels his players did not live up to expectations but is upbeat they can get their campaign back on track in their next engagement against Remo Stars.
“Not the result we wanted and not what we expected, Bendel Insurance scored with the only chance they had in the game, it was a very intense match but I know it’s football,” Arikya said.
“The team didn’t play as they played the last match but honestly, they were tried. Now, we have to go and look at what we need to work on again.
“It’s a very bad result, bad performance from the team but I’m hopeful that we will be back on track to overturn these poor result. We will be at the position that we finished [top six] last season by the grace of God.”
The Solid Miners have four points from eight matches as they languish at the bottom of the NPFL abridged group A table. They will welcome Remo Stars at the New Jos stadium, Jos in their next NPFL match on Saturday 18th of February 2023.
