By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward, Toni Payne rounded up the goals as Sevilla secured a 3-1 win against Villarreal in a Spanish Liga F encounter on Saturday.

The hosts had the upper hand and hit the bar in the opening embers of the game before the opener in the 19th minute.

Lucia Maria Rodriguez Herrero’s cross was headed into the net by Cristina Martin-Prieto Gutierrez.

The goal scorer in the 66th minute set up Gema Gili Giner who doubled the lead for Sevilla with a cool finish from the edge of the box.

Inside final 14 minutes, it was a nervy one after Fatoumata Kanteh Cham pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 76th minute.

That counted for nothing as Payne restored her side’s two-goal lead with an excellent finish inside the box in the 87th minute.

The Super Falcons forward saw 91 minutes of action before Alba Lopez replaced her.

Payne has scored four goals with two assists for Sevilla FC in the league this season.

Sevilla FC is in the sixth position on the log with 25 points after 14 games extending their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions.

Up next for the team is a home clash with Eibar on January 28, 2024.
