Transfer News: Egyptian club Al Ahly shows interest in Kelechi Iheanacho

By Wale Mustapha

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are reportedly preparing a bid to sign Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho in the upcoming January transfer window.

The 28-year-old Super Eagles winger has been struggling to make an impact at Spanish La Liga club Sevilla, having joined the club on a free transfer just six months ago.

Iheanacho has failed to register a league goal or assist in nine appearances for Sevilla, though he has managed two goals and two assists in the Copa del Rey.

His lack of form in the league has led to growing speculation about his future at the Spanish club, and he is pushing to leave in search of more regular playing time.

The Nigerian forward has attracted interest from a variety of clubs in England, Greece, Turkey, and the USA.

Al Ahly has emerged as a potential destination, with the Egyptian club reportedly eyeing him as a possible replacement for South African forward Percy Tau, according to English outlet Express.

Sevilla is said to be open to allowing Iheanacho to leave on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, which could provide the Nigerian with an opportunity to rejuvenate his career at a new club.
