U17 AFCON: Micheal Dokunmu gives reasons for dumping Nigeria for South Africa

Nigerian born attacking kid sensation, Micheal Dokunmu has revealed reasons for choosing to represent South Africa over Nigeria at the forthcoming U17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON taking place later in the month in Algeria.
Dokunmu was part of 23 players selected by Coach of South Africa, Duncan Crowie for the youth tourney that will be used as qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Dokunmu was plays for the youth team of Dutch side, Vittesse Arnhem was born in Kimberly, South Africa by Nigerian parents.
The young attacking midfielder cited comfort as parts of reasons for picking the Amajimbos over Nigeria and is ready to give it all at the tournament.

“I chose South Africa because it’s my birthplace, I decided because I am more comfortable playing for my birthplace and because I really love South Africa,”Dokunmu added.

“It was one of my dreams, one of my goals to get called up to the national team and from here, the U17 team and then gradually going on to make my debut for the national first team. “
South Africa are in group B along with Nigeria, Morocco and Zambia.
With Nigeria and South Africa on May 6 in the group stage, Dokunmu who has being in fine form this season with four goals and one assist in eight appearances for Vitesse’s U18 side is expected to feature for the Amajimbos.
