By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
After leading the Nigeria U-17 girls (Flamingos) to third place finish at India 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, coach Bankole Olowookere is brimming with confidence ahead of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season.
Olowookere made history by leading Flamingos to its first podium finish recently and he is now setting his sight on winning the NWFL Premiership title with Naija Ratels.
“As a coach, I always want to win every tournament I participate in. It’s not enough to talk about it but to act and achieve such a goal through preparation,” Olowookere told Brila FM.
“After gaining promotion to the NWFL Premiership and qualifying for the Super Six in our first season which was last season, we need to set another standard for Naija Ratels as a team.
“The next target is for the team to reach the Super Six once again and attempt to win the league. Winning the league will qualify us for next year’s CAF Women’s Champions League which is our target and dream as a team.”
The former DreamStar FC Ladies coach guided Naija Ratels FC to promotion to top flight NWFL Premiership from the second tier NWFL Championship alongside Adamawa Queens in 2021.
Naija Ratels FC qualified for the 2022 NWFL Premiership Super Six during its debut season in the top flight.
Unfortunately, the team lost all five games at the Super Six in Benin City, Edo State.
After a historic feat in India, Coach Bankole Olowookere and Naija Ratels will hope to ruffle shoulders with league heavyweights like Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, and Edo Queens in a bid to win the league title.
The 2022/2023 NWFL Premiership season use slated to kick off on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
