U17 WWC: Former Super Falcons coach predicts slim win for Flamingos over USA

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Former Super Falcons coach Rollason Odeh says the quarter-final match between Nigeria’s Flamingos and the United States of America U-17 side is a 50/50 game.
The Flamingos lost narrowly, 1-2, to Germany in their first match of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India but bounced back from the setback to claim 4-0 and 2-1 winners over New Zealand and Chile respectively.
And the former Edo Queens coach believes Bankole Olowookere’s side is capable of spring surprises in their last eight duel against the Americans on Friday.
“A lot of people are already writing off Nigeria before the next game with USA. Football is not Mathematics,” Coach Odeh told nigeriafootball.ng.
“It’s going to be a very tough game. As far as we have the good technical ability, things will fall in place.”
Nigeria, who would be aiming to break their quarterfinal jinx at this competition, are up against USA for the first time at this level and this encounter is an opportunity for the West Africans to make history.
And coach Odeh predicted a narrow and historic win for the Flamingos over their United States counterparts.
He said: “As far as I am concerned, the game can go either way and it’s going to be 50/50. As a supportive Nigeria, I will say that Nigeria will pick a slim victory or at worst take the game to extra time or penalties.
“This is an underage Championship. Nigeria is not playing with the USA senior national team.”
Nigeria and USA will meet for the first time in the competition history as they square up in the quarter-final for a spot in the semi-final at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium from noon Nigeria time.
