Nigeria forward Harmony Chidi is confident that the Flamingos will surpass their third-place finish at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, as they prepare for the upcoming tournament in the Dominican Republic.

Speaking ahead of their opening match against New Zealand on October 16 at the Cibao Stadium, Chidi expressed strong optimism about the team’s chances.

The young forward recounted the importance of team unity and the supportive spirit that has defined the Flamingos’ approach to success.

“We believe in each other, and that’s our major strength. Even when goals aren’t coming, the encouragement is there from one another. The spirit is strong, and that’s what will push us through,” Chidi said.

“Looking at us, we know we have what it takes to go far, and we are going to make it count this time.”

Chidi also praised the leadership of Bankole Olowookere, the head coach of the Flamingos, expressing trust in the technical crew to guide the team to greater heights.

“I believe in my coach, and I believe in the technical crew. We are going to reach the finals and bring the medal back,” she added confidently.

The Flamingos, who finished in third place two years ago, have shown resilience and determination as they aim for even better results this time around.

With Chidi’s infectious optimism and the collective spirit within the team, there’s a palpable sense of belief that they can achieve something special at this year’s tournament.

As the U-17 Women’s World Cup gets underway, Nigeria’s first challenge is against New Zealand on Wednesday, October 16, with kickoff set for 9:00 PM Nigerian time.

The Flamingos are eager to start their campaign on a strong note, with hopes of progressing through the tournament and making their country proud.

The team will be looking to build on their previous successes and continue to inspire the next generation of female footballers in Nigeria and beyond.
