U17 WWCQ: Flamingos to face Central Africa Republic after Mauritius withdrawal

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Mauritius U-17 women’s national team has withdrawn from the CAF Women’s U-17 Qualifying.

Sources close to the Mauritius FA revealed that lack of funds to prosecute the qualifiers necessitated the withdrawal.

The East African team were expected to face Central Africa Republic in the first round this December.

With the withdrawal, Central Africa Republic will gain a walkover win against Mauritius and will now play Nigeria’s Flamingos in the second round of the Qualifiers next year.

The second round of the Qualifiers will be held from February 2 to 11, 2024.

Nigeria made a podium finish at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Handled by Naija Ratels FC coach, Bankole Olowookere, the Flamingos beat Germany on penalties to win the bronze medal match after a loss in the semi-final to Colombia.

The West Africans will hope to return to the tournament via the qualifiers to surpass last year’s World Cup feat.
