U20 AFCON: We will show the right attitude against Egypt – Augustine Njoku

By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria fullback, Augustine Njoku is hopeful the team will pickup from their earlier loss against Senegal and prove their worth with a win against Egypt.
The Flying Eagles suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal courtesy of Sulaymane Faye’s lone goal and the loss had pilled pressure on the team following their uninspiring display against the junior Terranga Lions.
Njoku, however has dispelled the issue of pressure on the team facing up with the hosts Egypt as the rightback believes with the right character and attitude from the players could get a win.
“We are not under pressure as we play Egypt, the host nation. Qatar was the host nation of the 2022 World Cup and the team did not make it from the first round,” Njoku told media during the press conference.
“We just have to show the right character and attitude that will make us win Egypt. We want to play very well and correct the error that happened in the game against Senegal.”
Despite the losing start, Njoku insists securing the U20 world cup ticket remains the paramount target for the team.
“Our target is to pick the world cup ticket here in Egypt and if possible win the tournament. I want to appeal to Nigerians to keep on praying for the team,” he continued.
“We are very hopeful of getting back on track with a good result against Egypt.”
The Flying Eagles are without a win in the U20 AFCON and will hope to redeem their status with a win over Egypt on Wednesday 22nd of February 2023.
