Uchenna Kanu: Nigeria striker set for record six-figure transfer to American club

The United States of America (USA) National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, Racing Louisville is eyeing Nigerian forward Uchenna Kanu for a two-year deal with an option for a third, NigeriaFootball.ng understands.
According to journalist Jeff Kassouf, The American side is finalising a transfer to acquire Kanu from Mexican outfit, UANL Tigres for a mega six-figure transfer fee that would be in a region of $150,000 plus incentives.
If the deal pulls through, it will be a record for movement between the two leagues (NWSL and Mexican Liga MX Femenil), with Kanu in her second season with Tigres and has scored 10 league goals in 19 games this season.
The 25-year-old will become the second African at Racing after South African forward Thembi Kgatlana also joined on an ambitious international signing at Racing, who finished ninth in the league in 2022.
In 2021, she joined the Mexican team from Linkopings, she managed 12 goals after 19 league games.
At the Swedish Allsvenskan side, Linkopings FC, Kanu spent two seasons scoring eight league goals in 22 games during her first season (2020).
At the end of the 2021 season, the Nigerian forward raked in 14 goals in 20 league games for Linkopings FC, having joined from Spanish Liga F side, Sevilla, and has improved her goal-scoring prowess ever since leaving Spain.
She became the first foreign player to score a hat trick in the Mexican Liga MX and scored the winning goal against Bayern Munich as Tigres won the maiden Amazon Cup last month.
She is an integral part of the Super Falcons squad as the team prepares to participate in the Revelation Cup Tournament to be staged in Leon, Mexico City this month. The tournament is aimed at preparing the team for this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
