UCL: Earthquake hits Victor Osimhen’s Napoli ahead of Real Madrid clash

The city of Naples was reportedly hit by an earthquake at 04.08 PM ET on Monday, October 2nd, 2023, at 10:08 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 2.6 km below the surface ahead of Napoli’s UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
A magnitude-four earthquake which was the second most powerful tremor in the area over the past 40 years reported to have hit an area in Naples close to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium
However, the Los Blancos contingent are already situated in Naples ahead of the clash slated for tomorrow, with the team having already trained at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium earlier today.
The Italian champions are set to host the 14-time UCL winners in their second Champions League match, with both teams starting their journey in Group C with a victory.
Napoli opened their European campaign in style, beating Portuguese side Braga 2-1 away from home while Madrid won their group-stage opener by a 1-0 scoreline against German side Union Berlin.
Amidst the ongoing seismic activity, Naples residents harbor growing concerns about the possibility of a volcanic eruption in the Phlegraean Fields area.
Meanwhile, the Vesuvian Observatory recorded an additional eight earthquakes in the 15 minutes following the initial tremor. As of the time of reporting, authorities had reported no significant injuries or damages, although debris did fall in the Agnano area.
The event is said to have been filed by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and studies suggest that the likelihood of an eruption occurring in the near term is “almost negligible”.
