Usman Abdallah expresses concern over Kano Pillars defensive vulnerabilities

By Saheed Afolabi

Kano Pillars head coach, Usman Abdallah, has expressed growing concern over the team’s defensive performance following another frustrating 2-2 draw against Lobi Stars in Lafia, where the Masu Gida side came from two goals down to salvage a point.

Despite being the highest-scoring team in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) this season, Abdallah has highlighted the team’s vulnerability at the back, with a worrying number of goals conceded.

“We cannot continue this way,” Abdallah s. “As a technical staff, we are fully aware of the situation and will work together to find effective solutions. It is unacceptable that, despite our attacking prowess, we continue to concede silly goals.”

Abdallah’s frustration is evident as he noted that the team’s defensive issues are undermining their potential to perform at the highest level.

He added, “We have been the highest-scoring team in the league, so there is no reason why we should keep conceding goals like we have been. It’s unacceptable, and everyone must take responsibility moving forward.”

Looking ahead, Abdallah is considering a strategic move in the upcoming mid-season transfer window to strengthen the defense.

“We need to identify a no-nonsense central defender who can come in and solidify our defense. Whether from Nigeria, Niger Republic, or other countries, we will find someone who can make an immediate impact.”

With the second half of the season fast approaching, Abdallah is determined to address these defensive loopholes and ensure that his team can maintain their goal-scoring form while tightening up at the back.
