Victor Ikpeba heaps praise on Jose Peseiro over Afcon 2023 success

Former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba has lauded the Jose Peseiro for his contributions to the national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro lost only one match in seven games to take the Super Eagles to a second place finish following their 2-1 loss to host nation, Ivory Coast in the final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe.

Ikpeba gave kudos to Peseiro for reaching the AFCON final, commending Peseiro tactical at the Afcon final despite the loss to the Elephants.

“What he did in AFCON, credit to him. It took us 19 years to win our first AFCON. It’s difficult to win the AFCON,” Ikpeba said on Super Sports.

“Those who said Peseiro was defensive in his approach in the final should be ashamed of themselves. Don’t forget that was this same approach he used to defeat Cameroon, Angola and South Africa and he was not criticised.

“During my years when we had the best players, we never won the tournament. The foreign managers have done more for Nigeria. Accolades should be given to him because he has done well.”

Despite the expiration of his contract with the Super Eagles, Peseiro is still in talks with the NFF for an extension.
