Victor Osimhen has reaffirmed his commitment to Galatasaray after his two-goal display helped the Turkish champions beat Fenerbahce in a fiercely contested Istanbul derby.

The Nigeria international struck twice as Galatasaray claimed a 2-0 victory and returned to the top of the Turkish Super Lig table.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute, then added a second goal shortly before half-time to put Galatasaray in control of the highly anticipated match.

Fenerbahce responded after the interval, with Irfan Kahveci reducing the deficit two minutes after the hour mark. Galatasaray, however, withstood the pressure to secure an important derby success.

The performance marked another strong response from Osimhen, who had been criticised for his recent displays. The 27-year-old had already rediscovered his goalscoring form by netting in Galatasaray’s 4-2 UEFA Champions League win against his former club Lille last week.

Osimhen said the criticism had not affected his focus and insisted his priority remained contributing to Galatasaray’s ambitions.

“There were discussions before the match this week. I love this club. I always say it. I will give everything for this club. I don’t care about social media. I see the fans. Galatasaray fans have always been behind me since I arrived,” he told the club’s official website.

“They supported my family, me, and my friends. I focus on the fans’ support, not on unimportant things. I look at my team. I believe we will achieve even greater successes.”

The striker also underlined the significance of defeating Fenerbahce, saying derby victories could prove decisive in Galatasaray’s pursuit of another league title.

“Winning derbies is crucial for becoming champions. We managed to win this big derby and get three points. We are happy because of the team, the performance, and the fans,” Osimhen added.

He praised the Galatasaray supporters for their influence during the match and said the team remained determined to compete for every available trophy.

“Our fans both troubled the opponent and supported us very well. We want to lift all the trophies, no matter what competition we are in. We followed the coach’s instructions correctly. I congratulate our team. We earned a deserved three points.”
