Victor Osimhen set for spell on sidelines with muscle injury

By Monsurah Olatunji

Galatasaray has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will be sidelined due to a muscle injury sustained during the team’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Sivasspor on Sunday.

Osimhen, who had been in superb form, was substituted in the 74th minute after scoring a penalty and helping to propel a 10-man Galatasaray to victory.

The Turkish giants were reduced to 10 players in the 15th minute after defender Metehan Baltaci was sent off for handling the ball.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Osimhen’s penalty extended Galatasaray’s lead, putting them six points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig.

The 25-year-old forward, who has scored seven goals in nine Super Lig appearances and three more in four Europa League matches this season, is expected to miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against Malmö.

Additionally, he is likely to be unavailable for the upcoming league matches against Trabzonspor on Monday and Kayserispor on December 22.

According to Turkish news outlet Fanatik, Osimhen underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan, which revealed a moderate strain and bleeding in his right upper back muscle.

Fanatik further reported, “The treatment has started on him.”

Osimhen’s injury is a blow to both Galatasaray and the Nigerian international, as his form has been integral to the team’s success this season.

The club and fans will now be hoping for a swift recovery as he recovers from this setback.
