WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons land in Abuja, set for trophy parade

Newly crowned African champions, the Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, touched down in Abuja on Monday afternoon to a heroic welcome following their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco.
The players and officials arrived aboard a Fly ValuJet flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where they were received by top government dignitaries including Governor Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Governor Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), alongside other officials.
Following their arrival, the Super Falcons will embark on atrophy parade in an open-roof bus through major districts in Abuja.
The route will include Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, before concluding at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, where they will be hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
After the reception at the Villa, coach Justine Madugu progress and his team will proceed to Eagle Square for a celebratory live concert in their honour.
Several top Nigerian artistes are billed to perform at the star-studded event, which will kick off at 7 p.m.
The Super Falcons cemented their continental dominance on Saturday night after defeating the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Stade Olympique in Rabat, sealing their place as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
