WAFCON 2026 Qualifiers: Super Falcons to face Benin Republic in Second Round

Benin Republic senior women’s national team defeated Sierra Leone 3-1 in the return leg of their First Round of 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers on Monday.

Marguerite Ahouassou, Germaine Honfo, and Aude Gbedjissi scored for Benin Republic in the return leg.

A goal from Kumba Zainab Brima was not enough to help Sierra Leone welder the storm of Benin Republic.

Benin Republic’s triumph sealed a 5-2 aggregate win in the First Round of the Qualifiers.

They will face nine time African champions, Nigeria in a two legged Second Round to determine the team that will qualify for WAFCON 2026 in Morocco.

WAFCON 2026 serve as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

With WAFCON 2024 taking place this year, there will be two WAFCON in the space of a year if things go according to schedule as it was in 2012 and 2013 for the men.

Zambia won the the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) before Nigeria won the 2013 edition.
