WAFU U20 Women Cup: Ghana invites 34 players to camp for Nigeria showdown

Ghana women’s U-20 team coach Yussif Basigi has called up 34 players to report to the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram on Sunday, April 2, to begin preparations for the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU Zone B) Women’s U-20 Cup of Nations in May.
According to a release by the Ghana Football Association, four goalkeepers, nine defenders, nine midfielders and 12 forwards have been invited by coach Basigi.
The Black Princesses have not been in action since October last year when they played in the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica. The team lost all three group games to the United States of America (USA), Japan, and the Netherlands to bow out of the tournament.
Coach Basigi is expected to put together a strong squad to compete against India 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup bronze medalist Nigeria.
Niger, Benin, Ivory Coast, Togo, and Burkina Faso are the other teams that will be participating at the maiden tournament.
The first edition of the WAFU Zone B Women’s U-20 Cup of Nations will take place in Kumasi from Saturday, May 20 to Sunday, June 4, 2023.
