Abia Warriors head coach, Erasmus Onuh has blamed his team’s first defeat of the season on complacency.
The Warriors were subdued at home by Lobi Stars on Sunday following a 1-0 defeat to the visitors in their week three encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia.
Home boy, Kumaga Suur was the star of the day for the away side after he netted the decisive winner for the Pride of Benue as his strike 11 minutes into the second half to hand Abia Warriors their first defeat of the season.
Speaking after the match, Onuh blamed the defeat on overconfidence and promised to get back to the drawing board to right the wrongs, while lauding the referees’ effort.
“I thought we’ve arrived, maybe the players thought they have all arrived,” Onuh told media.
“So, we know now that we have not arrived. We’ll go back and see what went wrong. It’s the entire team I am going to look into.”
“If I can lose (at home), somebody is losing, and l have beaten somebody (away), that means, the referees are doing well, there is nothing wrong with it. It’s just for me to go back to the computer and get it right.”
The Warriors are on six points, the same as Lobi Stars, who are now joint-leaders but are still behind Warriors and Niger Tornadoes, who face Rivers United on Tuesday, based on goal difference.
Abia Warriors will be looking for a quick return to winning ways when they take on Sunshine Stars in Akure next Sunday while Lobi Stars host Bayelsa United on the same day in their adpoted home, Jos.
