Werder Bremen manager Daniel Thioune is weighing up a positional switch for Felix Agu as the defender works his way back to full fitness.
Agu, who has been sidelined for several months due to injury, recently returned to action, featuring in a U23 fixture as part of his gradual reintegration into the first team setup.
Speaking on the player’s versatility, Thioune revealed that the coaching staff has been experimenting with different roles to maximize his impact.
“We’ve experimented a lot with Felix because I know how versatile he is and where he can bring quality to the team,” he said.
The Bremen boss also disclosed that Agu was deployed in a more advanced position during a recent friendly, hinting at a potential tactical adjustment.
“We’re considering exactly that. He played on the left wing in the friendly because I believe it can work,” Thioune added.
However, he emphasized that Agu’s fitness remains the key factor in determining both his role and involvement moving forward.
“If he’s fit and at 100 percent, then in my opinion, he belongs on the pitch. Now we have to decide where we’ll put him,” he noted.
Agu’s potential positional shift could provide Werder Bremen with added tactical flexibility as they look to strengthen their squad options for the remainder of the season.
