‘We’re happy to see Onuachu fulfil his Premier League dream’ – Genk’s Dimitri Conde

Barely 24 hours after trading one of their best goal poachers, Belgium top club, Genk have admitted they did not want to be the barrier to Paul Onuachu fulfilling his long sought dream to play in the English top-flight league.
Premier League side Southampton completed the acquisition of the  Nigerian forward on transfer deadline day where he signed three and half years contract worth £18 million plus add-ons.
The lanky 28-year-old joined Genk in the summer of 2019 and scored 84 goals in 134 matches to mark his footprint in the League’s history. The Nigeria international won the Golden Boot in the 2020/21 season after pouncing 33 goals to finished as top scorer and the player of league.
And Genk’s Sports Director,  Dimitri De Conde, however admitted that the club is happy the Super Eagles star finally realised his dream.
“We could no longer stop him from making his dream come true. I am pleased that Paul is also grateful to the club for that,” Conde said.
“His departure is of course a great loss for our current selection. We shouldn’t be silly about that. But we were prepared for a possible departure.”
On his own part, Onuachu, had earlier took to the social media, bid his hertfelt goodbye to the club and fans.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped me grow here. The different coaches, the technical staff and of course the supporters.
“I wish the club the best for the future. It is my greatest wish that they can take the title. Genk will always be my home, wherever I go.”
