Why I moved to Saudi Arabia – Ashleigh Plumptre
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria international Ashleigh Plumptre has revealed the reasons why she moved to the Saudi Arabia Women’s League.
The Super Falcons defender pitched her tent to Al-Ittihad after the expiration of her contract at Leicester City in the 2023 summer.
The defender explained that her move to the East was in a bid to connect with people of different colors or beliefs, stressing that the witch will provide more development opportunities as she’s open to learning on and off the pitch.
“Football for me has always been about connecting, not just more with myself but with the people I’m surrounded by, my teammates, staff and everything I’ve done so far in my career, it’s been about representing something bigger than myself,” Plumptre told club media.
“Joining Al-Ittihad, I feel as if I will have so many opportunities on and off the pitch to be able to learn more about football here.
“I don’t come here with any expectations, I came here being myself and I hope I can learn and take so much from the environment both as a football player and more importantly as a human being and I’m already feeling that.
“I’m just looking forward to get this journey started with this team and seeing what we can achieve in every aspect.”
Plumptre starred for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and helped the team reach the round of 16.
The Saudi Arabia Women’s Premier League is expected to kickoff on October 13.
