Why Sanusi Mohammed can’t remain as NFF General Secretary – Ministry of Sports
By Niyi Busari
A top staff of Ministry of Sports has stated that having the current Nigeria Football Federation Secretary General, Dr Sanusi Mohammed continuing to hold on to the position contradicts Federal Character and fair representation in the Board of the NFF.
The Level 16 officer who pleaded anonymity added that Nigeria Constitution frowned at the decision to have the two most important positions in the federation be occupied by two persons from the same geo-political zone in Nigeria (North-west).
He said: “The newly elected NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau is from Zamfara State while the Secretary General hailed from Kebbi State.  So, for fair representation on the board, the Secretary General must come from the another region.”
“Though in line with who the new President wants to work with, because position of Secretary General of NFF is by appointment not election but Federal Character will play a great role in who he will choose as Secretary General.”
The six North West states in Nigeria consists of: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
Nigeria Football understands that Mohammed has an existing contract to continue as General Secretary till 2023.
