Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his excitement about working with new Leicester City manager Steve Cooper.

Ndidi signed a new three-year contract with the Foxes on Friday, ending a week-long speculation regarding a potential exit from the King Power Stadium.

The Super Eagles midfielder’s previous contract had expired last month, and he was reportedly considering a move to another club.

With the new deal, Ndidi is set to remain with Leicester City until June 2027. He admitted that Cooper’s appointment was a significant factor in his decision to extend his stay.

“I’ve had a chance to speak with [Cooper]. I spoke to him during the holidays when he came in,” Ndidi told the club’s official website.

“He had some good ideas to share with me, so it was really amazing, and I’m looking forward to working with him. He’s a great guy, he’s funny. It’s very exciting.”

The 27-year-old joined Leicester City from Belgian Pro League outfit KRC Genk in January 2017 and has since won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Foxes in 2021.

Leicester City will kick off their 2024/25 English Premier League season by hosting Tottenham Hotspur on August 19.
