Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has received assurance from the Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers that he remains a critical part of the first-team picture at the King Power Stadium despite consistent injury worry.
The 26-year-old versatile midfielder has been out of the first-team picture at Leicester City after a series of battles with injury.
“I had a sit-down with him and an honest conversation with him. He has struggled with injuries,” Rodgers said, as per Leicester Mercury.
“We’ve got a really busy schedule in January. It’s sometimes coming away from the team and working on the training field. I can see his freshness. There’s no doubt over the coming weeks he (Ndidi) will get opportunities,” he concluded.
Ndidi has made nothing less than 26 league appearances every season since joining Leicester City. During the 2018/19 campaign, the Nigeria international featured in every 38 Premier League games starting thirty-seven matches for the Foxes.
However, injuries have limited his impact in recent times, with the tough tackler making only 19 appearances last season and appearing in only ten of Leicester’s first 16 matches.
Ndidi, however has been used as a late substitute in Leicester City’s last three Premier League games against Everton, West Ham, and Newcastle United, raising concerns about his fitness and his importance to the Foxes.
