William Troost Ekong has handed Nigeria an untimely injury scare ahead of March’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau after Salernitana revealed that he will be undergoing a scan in coming days.

The Super Eagles’ vice captain sustained injury during Salernitana’s Serie A clash against Juventus last Wednesday.

The Italian side announced on Sunday that the experienced center back will be for two weeks due to an injury with Nigeria set to face Guinea-Bissau in the AFCON qualifiers.

In a statement released on Salernitana website disclosed that: “Troost Ekong underwent an MRI and CAT scan at the Centro Polidiagnostico Check-Up which showed a fracture of the tibial plateau following a blunt trauma.

“The athlete has already started the physiotherapy protocol and will carry out new diagnostic checks in two weeks,” the club wrote on its website.

Ekong joined Salernitana in the January transfer window from Championship side Watford after finding playing time hard to come by.

He has featured three times for the relegation struggling side who will be saddened with his latest injury in their quest to beat the drop.

The 29 year old has 63 appearances for Nigeria scoring four goals.
