William Troost-Ekongs pens emotional message to fans over his injury

Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament, William Troost-Ekong, has penned an emotional message to PAOK fans confirming his heartbreaking injury.
The Super Eagles assistant captain sustained the injury while on international duties for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and he has now been ruled out of the season.
The centre-back was not just one of the best performers at the concluded tournament, but he’s also the highest-scoring defender.
He played six of the Super Eagles’ seven games in the tournament, helping Nigeria to the final, where they suffered a 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire and scored three goals.
Sadly, his impressive performances came at a cost after he picked up an injury in their second group match but went on to play until the final.
With two years left on his current deal at the Greek giants, he must undergo surgery to correct the injury.
“PAOK family, as many know, I got injured during AFCON. Disappointingly, this injury has turned out to be more serious than first thought,” read the statement posted on the player’s X handle.
“I have always given everything and pushed myself. Every player has played with pain at some point in their career to fight for club or country. It’s part of the game.
“I managed to continue in the knockout stages, and I was willing to continue to do the same now to help PAOK push for the prizes in the league and Europe too, but after more assessments and consultations, it was the best decision long-term to undergo the surgery now.
“My full focus is on getting back better than ever before.”
