Former England international, Eniola Aluko has commended Nigeria efforts or performances against the England national team in the round of 16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Three Lionesses sent the Super Falcons packing from the 32-nationa tournament through the penalty shootout at the Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane and the Nigerian-British star praised the Nigerians for silencing the English side.
“I was so impressed with the way Nigeria nullified England, tactically they man-marked Lauren James and Keira Walsh out of the game,” Aluko was quoted by Sports 247.
“England didn’t know how to figure it out and I think Nigeria left with so many fans. It says something about where African women’s football is at that three African sides (Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco) got through to the knockout stages.
“The way Nigeria played throughout. They beat the hosts Australia and they came through the toughest group so it’s a massive win for England in terms of getting past a difficult test.”
The Super Falcons will turn their attention to the CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers in September.
