Nigeria national team women’s head coach, Randy Waldrum has stated that the team weren’t rated to reach the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons reached the Round of 16 for the third time in their history after accumulating five points from three matches.
After a disappointing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Waldrum who has faced constant criticism before the Women’s World Cup said he never gave up on the squad to achieve great things at the World Cup.
“I just told them two years ago when we started this journey, so many things went well and so many things didn’t go well but we never gave up,” Waldrum told NFF TV.
“I don’t think anyone believe we could make it out from the group and still went through the group without losing a match. I’m so proud of them.
“I’m actually disappointed because I thought we could have won the match but we are glad of reaching the next round.
“We have already played the Olympic Gold medalist, we have already played the host nation so it’s going to be another of those matches that we are going to play again.”
The Super Falcons made a record as they became the first African team to reach the knockout stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup without loosing a match.
