World Cup: France vs Morocco is more like an Africa Cup of Nations final – Okocha

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Super Eagles captain and SuperSport pundit, Austine Jay-Jay Okocha has described the upcoming semi-final fixture between Morocco and France at Qatar 2022 will be like an African Cup of Nations final.
On Saturday, Morocco defeated Spain 1-0 to continue their fairytale run in the ongoing global showpiece in Doha.
The quarterfinal victory saw the North African nation became the first team from Africa to qualify for a World Cup semi-final and the first African side to seal an outright win in the knockout stages in the history of the competition.
Morocco will clash with defending champions France in the semi-finals at Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday, December 14 and the Nigerian legend anticipates a physical battle.
“It’s more like an AFCON final,” Okocha said on SuperSport.
“We know, Africa is not a country, but when it comes to World Cup, support is often thrown behind teams from the entire continent. Les Blues has plenty of players who have roots on the mother continent.”
The 2018 squad that won the World Cup for France had a total of about fifteen players of African descent. While France has a large number of players with African ancestry, more than half of Moroccan squad were born outside the country, including France.
