World Cup Qualifier: William Troost-Ekong declares fit ahead of Bafana Bafana clash

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria captain, William Troost-Ekong has declared himself fit ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic this month.

The 2023 AFCON Player of the Tournament is ready to represent Nigeria if called by Finidi George as the centre-back sustained a thigh injury during the Africa Cup of Nations and was expected to be out for at least four months after a successful surgery in March.

Originally, he had aimed to return to the pitch for the final three games of the season following his quick recovery but his coach decided otherwise.

“They predicted it would take three to four months for me to come back, I came back in nine weeks,” he stated in a Meet and Greet with the media in Lagos.

“I am match fit; I didn’t play in the last games (for PAOK) but that’s up to the coach to decide. But I was back with the team training two weeks before the end.

“I am fit now, so if anything happens to the current squad (Super Eagles), Finidi George has my full support. But I can thank God that I am back fit again.”
