World Cup Qualifiers: Time and where to watch Nigeria vs South Africa
By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria welcomes South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The Super Eagles are currently third in Group C having drawn their first two games, both ending 1-1 against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, leaving them in a tight spot against second-placed South Africa who sits just one point above.
A win against the Bafana Bafana would catapult them to the top of the group before their next match against Benin Republic.
Both sides recently met at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Cote d’Ivoire where the Super Eagles came out victorious via a penalty shootout in the semifinals of the tournament.
Nigeria heads into the game with a newly appointed head coach, Finidi Goerge, who is without key players, Victor Osimhen and William Troost-Ekong who scored the lone goal in regular time during AFCON.
However, the team welcomes back Victor Boniface, who missed the 2023 AFCON tournament and a resurgence of Ademola Lookman who recently made history in the Europa League.
While South Africa will be all out for revenge, they have just two wins in their last 14 meetings with Nigeroa winning 7 times as the other 5 ended in draws.
The match which is scheduled for Friday, June 7, 2024, will kick off at 8 pm Nigerian time at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Fans can follow the game from the comfort of their couch on DStv, Digital platform Afro Sports and the official YouTube platform of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
