By Saheed Afolabi

Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xavi Alonso, has expressed uncertainty regarding the recovery timeline for Victor Boniface, who has been sidelined with an Abductor injury sustained during preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON).

While acknowledging Boniface’s commendable recovery progress, Alonso refrained from specifying a definitive return date. However, he expressed optimism that Boniface would soon regain full fitness, potentially returning to action either in April or May, which would significantly bolster the team.

Alonso praised Boniface’s professionalism and dedication to his rehabilitation despite being sidelined, emphasizing the positive impact his return would have on the team.

“His (Boniface) development is very good; the recovery is going in the right direction. That’s very positive,” Alonso stated, as quoted by Bild.

“We expect Boniface soon, I don’t know, but it won’t be until May, maybe April, and that’s very good for us, having Boniface back. Boni works very well, with great professionalism, twice a day. We need players who have the desire to be back.”

Prior to his injury, Boniface had been in superb form for Bayer Leverkusen, contributing 16 goals and eight assists in 23 games, highlighting his importance to the Bundesliga outfit’s attacking prowess.
