Barcelona’s rising star, Pau Cubarsi, has credited coach Xavi Hernandez for his outstanding performance in his debut Champions League appearance, particularly in neutralizing the threat posed by Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, the Serie A’s top scorer from last season.

In the crucial second-leg clash, the 17-year-old defender’s stellar display played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s 4-2 aggregate victory over Napoli, helping them overturn a 1-1 first-leg deficit.

Under Xavi’s guidance, Cubarsi showcased remarkable defensive prowess, making five clearances, one interception, and three tackles. He also displayed dominance in aerial and ground duels, winning all three aerial duels and three ground duels.

Osimhen, known for his lethal scoring ability, was effectively subdued by Cubarsi throughout the game, managing just one shot and limited to only 29 touches. Moreover, Cubarsi’s tactical discipline kept Osimhen at bay, with the Nigerian forward being caught offside on three occasions.

“Xavi gave me the details on what to do to stop Osimhen, and the fans in the stands helped us a lot, they were the 12th player,”revealed Cubarsi, expressing gratitude for Xavi’s guidance and acknowledging the support from the Barcelona faithful.

“It’s an honour to make my Champions League debut by winning the Man of the Match award and reaching the quarter-finals,” Cubarsi revealed, as reported by Get Football Spain.

Cubarsi’s impressive performance and tactical maturity underscored his potential as a future star for Barcelona, earning him accolades and recognition as the Man of the Match in his debut Champions League appearance.
