2023 AFCONQ: Guinea-Bissau president ecstatic with epic win against Nigeria

President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo is still in dreamland over his country’s historic win over Nigeria in Friday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Wild Dogs were not given any chance of making major impact in the build up to the match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium no thanks to the pedigree of the Super Eagles.
Coach Baciro Cande’s side however proved the bookmakers wrong with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Mama Balde’s 29th minute beauty sailing past goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
Excited by the famous victory over of the three-time African champions, President Embalo took to his social media page to celebrate the Wild Dogs’ win.
“My hearty congratulations to our national Djurtus! A lot of pride and joy for this great victory against the Nigerian national team! A very good continuation of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” President Embalo tweeted.
Super Eagles dominated the remaining proceedings of the match after the setback but they were unable to get launch a comeback with unpardonable misses their major undoing.
Aside from moving to the summit of Group A having accrued seven points from four matches, the West Africans have also avenged their 2-0 loss to Nigeria during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Cameroon.
Guinea Bissau will have a chance to complete the double over Nigeria when both sides meet on Monday for the Matchday Four billed for Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro.
A victory for Guinea Bissau on Monday will see them qualify for the AFCON in Ivory Coast with two games to spare.
