2023 AFCONq: Kenneth Omeruo shares reasons behind Nigeria win over Sierra Leone

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo has attributed the team’s concentration for a 3-2 victory against Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia, on Sunday.
After Victor Osimhen’s brace was cancelled by the hosts, Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho’s late winner earned the Super Eagles a place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be hosted in Cote d’Ivoire.
The 29-year-old Leganes star, who captained the Eagles to victory against the Leone Stars has revealed the secret that led to their hard-earned victory.
“Concentration is very important. The game would have died in the first half. There was a very clear penalty that was not given. That would have killed the game,” Omeruo told media.
“But, still, we must always stay focused until the end. It was a difficult game; we knew they were going to fight because it is the only opportunity they have to qualify.
“But, I am happy we kept our heads until the end, and we were able to win the game, so I am happy.”
The Super Eagles will host Sao Tome and Principe in a dead rubber clash in September.
