The Super Falcons who are the most successful team in Africa defiled all odds at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World in Australia and New Zealand, finishing unbeaten in a group consisting of defending Olympic champions, Canada, co-hosts, Australia, and Republic of Ireland.
They are the only African women’s side not to lose a game in the group stage and kept two clean sheets in the process to qualify for the Round of 16.
The nine-time African champions beat off competition from reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions South Africa and Morocco, with whom they all reached the round of 16 at the Women’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, a 7-1 aggregate win against Cape Verde ensured the Falcons will be making their 13th appearance at the tournament, which began in 1998 in Nigeria.
This comes after a second round 5-1 aggregate Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying triumph over Ethiopia put the Super Falcons in bright place of reaching the finals of the global sporting showpiece next summer.
