Ikorodu City suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Plateau United at the Lafia City Stadium on Monday.
The heavy loss dealt a significant blow to the Oga Boys’ chances of clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
Ossy Martins was the standout performer for Plateau United, scoring twice, while Kazeem Adeyanju and Victor Dawa added a goal each to seal an emphatic victory for the hosts.
Ikorodu City’s only consolation came through Moses Ali, but it did little to change the outcome of the encounter.
Despite the setback, Ikorodu City remain in third position on the table with 52 points from 33 matches. Plateau United, on the other hand, climbed to eighth place with 46 points from the same number of games.
In another NPFL fixture, Abia Warriors boosted their hopes of securing a continental ticket with a narrow 1-0 win over Bayelsa United.
Former NPFL top scorer Emeka Obioma netted the decisive goal just before the hour mark to hand Abia Warriors all three points.
The victory moved Abia Warriors up to fourth position with 52 points, while Bayelsa United remain in 16th place with 40 points.
